The purpose of the SDCDC funding program is to support community based initiatives that further our mission and goals. The mission of the SDCDC is to encourage business development and
economic opportunities, identify and assist in developing opportunities
for housing initiatives within, and increase of educational, cultural,
recreational, and social opportunities for residents, all within the
south Decatur community.
Current Program GoalsOur broad mission has allowed us to focus on the changing needs of the community. In 2009, the SDCDC seeks to award up to $12,000 total in loans and grants to eligible projects that accomplish one or more of the following:
- Improve the living conditions of low-income seniors.
- Improve low-income children’s access to early childhood learning.
- Bring diverse members of the community together.
EligibilityThe SDCDC awards funding to US-based nonprofits, community groups and neighborhood organizations that further our goals in the South Decatur community. Eligible projects serve South Decatur (city of Decatur south of the tracks), and must not discriminate. This funding program is not for individual assistance.
Funding LimitMaximum funding for any one project is $5,000, as a loan or grant. Loans must be fully repaid within a 2-year period. Loans held greater than 6 months will be charged a nominal interest rate.
Application ProcessThe SDCDC accepts written applications on an ongoing basis by mail, email or in person. Start by telling a SDCDC Board member about your intent to apply for funding. Print out our easy funding application below. Submit a complete application at least 2 months before funding is needed. If requested, meet with the SDCDC Board to discuss your project. The SDCDC Board will review and decide on your application within 2 months. The Board of the SDCDC reserves the right to accept or deny funding.
